The mosque was built by Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin I Jaya Wikrama, located near the Fountain as the centre point of Palembang. The architecture of this mosque is influenced by China, Europe and Palembang. Every Friday, the mosque’s yard will be crowded by traders who peddle a variety of items including typical culinary South Sumatra rarely encountered everyday.
The main building of the mosque was built in 1748. The tiles and system of roof is influenced by Chinese architectural style while he main hall is equipped with a traditional ornament of Palembang.
